Adieus to the Season...Not Quite

I will bequeath my adieus/farewell to the season in a wrap-up post after our future leaguers/leaders wrap-up their triumphant journey of the season at the Home Depot Center on Sunday. I will focus more on why we do what we do as parents and coaches and leaders to help cultivate, evolve and rear our children in a civic and culturally responsive fashion.

Aspire to Inspire as I share a quote I read some years ago...

Small minds talk about people,
Average minds talk about things,
Great minds talk about ideas!
Source: Many are attributed to quoting this, but my research yielded Adm. Hyman G. Rickover as one originator.

Until my wrap-up...peace, love and happiness!

Parents: Leaders and Support Nucleus for our Future Leaders

Nucleus (n00'klē-s) n: the solid central part about which other parts are grouped or gathered; core.

We as parents are the NUCLEUS--the solid, central part of not only the Future League division of the Leimert Park Chargers, but we are the solid, central and core part of the rearing of our children. We must mold and shape our children to be the leaders we want them to be both on and off the field as children and as adults into the future.

Our actions and what we do around our children shape their life experiences and it is up to us to demonstrate positive behavior when we are in their presence. Our children will carry these experiences and principals into the world around them where they will meet people from all walks of life, various backgrounds and socio-economic levels. We need them to be able to hold their own and we must prevent the affliction of educational, healthcare and racial disparities we might unconsciously pass on to them in light of our actions. We must afford them the chance to compete, not only in sports, but in ACADEMICS and attitude!

It is easier said than done and requires a great deal of discipline--that same sort of discipline we expect and demand each of our children to have and exude in the classrooms, on football fields and beyond. But we, as adults, must endeavor to try and persevere through the most challenging of situations and put goodness and wholesomeness out to get it in return--myself included.

A new coined phrase (not one that I coined, but one I will use just the same), Aspire to Inspire is what we should aim for daily. We should want to aspire and reach new heights and be inspired and encouraged by positive, harmonious and just actions. For we know good and positiveness begets more good and positiveness, and well bad and negativity--you can fill in the rest...

Let's set good examples for our children--we are their first teachers and role models and we are performing on a very grand stage each day for them! Let's do our best to make our children proud, well-rounded and globally competitive in this 21st Century!

Thanks to all and remember Aspire to Inspire!

Game 7: 11.02.08 | Leimert Park Chargers vs. California Cowboys

Not just Any Given Sunday!

Rain, rain go away, please come back another day! On an early, wet and rainy Sunday morning when the nation fell back an hour for fall a few hours earlier, parents and future leaders grappled to muster the strength to get out of their warm and cozy beds to prepare and head to their 7th game of the season in the rain!

This time up...the California Cowboys.

Mother nature opted for a reprieve and decided to spare our little guys, what I'm sure they would have considered pleasurable, from a bunch of mud slingin' and slidin' form of play for just a good ole, clean version (in the literal sense) of a great, All-American, past-time!

The game was great and all of the children on both sides of the field and the benches were awesome in their own right!

Our hats are off to all players, coaches and parents! For the LP Chargers Future League...we're hoping the Snooper Bowl is within our grasp, reach!

Stay tuned...one more game of the regular season to be played next week!

A Cheerleader and A Ball Player: unwind after practice, prepare for BYE...

J to the second power! Cousins! Jamani and Jalen (that is) visit with one another and unwind after Thursday's practice! She cheers and he plays for Future League/Leaders.

Aren't they adorable?

Parents chill and look toward the weekend---a BYE one at that...

bye–noun
1. Sports. in a tournament, the preferential status of a player or team not paired with a competitor in an early round and thus automatically advanced to play in the next round: The top three seeded players received byes in the first round.

One of my best-est and my guy!

And prepare for a wedding in the mountains @ Spencers in Palm Springs, and a pool party afterwards!

Hope you enjoy the reprieve as much as we are planning to! More blogging in about a week or so.

Palm Springs | Wonderful and Quite Picturesque...

A bit off the beaten path, but then again we were only able to enjoy a relaxing weekend in Palm Springs because of the bye--what committed parents. With that said, wedding at Spencers was beautiful and my friend's vacation home, which we are welcome to overnight at anytime (his primary, 3-story home is on Venice Beach) was even more beautiful and tranquil than the restaurant itself. With a pomegranate tree in the backyard, the yard serves as an extension to the house, i.e., indoor/outdoor living. There are six sets of double, dark gray painted wood-framed glass doors leading to the exterior of the home, and a spa-like, lap pool of sorts (but a bit bigger) complete with jacuzzi and waterfall! One word: amazing! We enjoyed the bye whilst visiting the dessert!

Game 5: 10.11.08 | Leimert Park Chargers vs. Carson Saints

Interestingly, this game, I managed NOT to capture any actual still images of our future league leaders on the field--only avi files! Oh well--just be sure to cop the DVD at the end of the season!

Feeling a little Family Nostalgia

Game 4: 10.04.08 | Leimert Park Chargers vs. Southern Cal Falcons

There was an awesome interception this game by McGuire! Replay, REWIND (think Missy Elliott) all you want when the Season DVD drops!

Score Board wasn't working at Douglas Beattie field...

Chargers 14 ---- Falcons 0

For some reason, despite sporting my vintage-styled Chargers Tee, the competition insisted that I take pictures of them! And, being of stellar quality and good sportswomanship, I obliged. So I bequeath these photos to you. Of course, it's all good--these are all of our babies, no matter what jerseys they sport!

Podcasting and the Leimert Park Chargers Future League?

Hmmm.

Recall Brag Books? The hard copy photos we carried in our purses and photos dads carried in their wallets to brag and show off their kids to others. With the evolution of technology, our brag books have morphed into wireless devices like camera phones, Apple iphones, and iPods to name a few.
Well, I'm now working with the techy friends of mine at MySpace to enable some nifty techy features where new video and photos of your Leimert Park Chargers Future League will always be two-clicks away from your wireless, internet-ready devices. Consider this 21st Century brag-booking a whole new way!

Stay tuned..

Game 3 Comments: USC vs. Texas Longhorns?

Oops! I meant Leimert Park Chargers vs. The Watts Rams!

This game---a nail bitter, a grit your teeth(er), a game with momentum vacillating from one team to the other! An animated and cheering crowd! It seemed as though we'd made it to the small screen...a Lakers TV-like moment, but Chargers TV instead!

It felt like "...been here before". Oh, yeah---we have. You might Recall: the 2006 Rose Bowl game. Now recall the key players: Reggie Bush and Vince Young. Recall a bit more: Burgundy & Gold vs. Orange & White...you know USC vs. the Longhorns!

And...in the off chance you can't recall any of this, here's a little You Tube video to jog that memory.

Who could forget the performance by Vince Young in this up-setter?

So you ask...what's the juxtaposition of this game to our Future League boys and the Chargers vs. Rams?

You guessed it, the Chargers had their very own Reggie Bush in the form of Kevin McGuire and the Rams had their very own Vince Young in the form of a young 7-year old who's name I don't have as I write this post. Their ubiquitous play was captivating!

However, the outcome of this game was different--the team with the Reggie Bush-look-alike captured the W. That team is our team, the Mighty, Mighty Chargers!

Our hats go off to both teams who played phenomenal and two players who gave us a de ja vu glimpse of the type of game a Future League-Reggie Bush vs. Future League-Vince Young might have looked like when they were aged 6 or 7. It was awesome and it is one of those--better-seen-in-person-than-video moments!

Our pictorial highlights are below and CONGRATS are in order for both the CHARGERS and the RAMS--their awesome and determined players and coaches!
